Oracle Primavera Training

Primavera allows companies to plan, schedule and control small-scale to large-scale programs and individual projects.

Combining strict critical path methodology (CPM) along with customizable coding makes Primavera P6 the most common engineering, planning and construction execution tool available.

Once activities have been created, they can be loaded with resources / roles which provide a complete picture of both what is currently happening and the future demands of your company.  P6 combines industry-accurate best practices with a top notch Oracle approved curriculum. Our instructors have implemented, trained and serviced Primavera for over 20 years.

Our instructors have implemented, trained and serviced Primavera for over 20 years.  Our classes are offered both in-person or from the comfort of your home via virtual desktop. Catalyst combines industry-accurate best practices with a top-notch Oracle approved curriculum.  Our classes are offered both in-person or from the comfort of your home via virtual desktop.  We offer a 3-day Oracle Primavera P6 Professional Fundamentals or a 2-day P6 Professional Advanced class.

Virtual Desktops

Feel free to use your own laptop.  You connect to a remote desktop for the class and have the ability to copy beneficial class content, such as templates, onto your laptop for later use.

Leading technology that makes it easy to connect with Catalyst.

Custom Options

If one of our pricing models do not fit, call us, we can customize training in a way that fits your needs.

Data in P6
What it takes to get started.  From opening Primavera through creation of your first project.  We walk through the P6 Professional interface, create a new project, discuss the fields and set a start date.
Overview & Navigation
We discuss how to move around in Primavera with topics including Windows & Menus, Tabs & Toolbars, Opening / closing a project and understanding the difference between the tables and the Gantt Chart.
Create a WBS
The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) gives structure to project activities.
Adding Activities
A discussion on the different activity types that are available in P6.
Creating Relationships
In Primavera, tasks are linked to each other via logical ties.  Catalyst will show the different relationship types while building our schedule and have discussions on why we use logic in given situations.
Assigning Calendars
Calendars determine the working time versus non-working time in a schedule.  Catalyst will discuss the three different types of calendars and show the effect on tasks when switching between calendars.
Working with Constraint
Your start date may be known but what are we doing to make sure the project finishes on time?  Catalyst will teach you how to lock your finish date in place along with using more advanced constraint types such as As Late As Possible.
Creating Layouts
Once a schedule is built, we may no longer want to see the tasks by just the WBS.  Maybe we want to see the schedule by who is responsible for each task or maybe we want to see what tasks are upcoming in the next 5 weeks.
Roles & Resources
While we have our tasks in place and our Critical Path Methodology Schedule built, we need to establish who is going to do the work and how much it will cost.
Baselining a Project
With Tasks, Logic and Resources, our CPM schedule is now built.  However, we have a contract with our owner.  Baselining establishes that contract and gives our project team a target from which to compare.
Methods of Applying Updates
We have our schedule built along with it Baseline, but how do we know if we are on track?  Progress provides a weekly interval to which we enter what has actually happened on the project.
Working with Reflection
Have you had an owner say, “What-if” we make this change?  Reflection gives the user a tool from which to create copies of your project.  Upon final decision, the changes can be added to the actual project.

Resource & Role Analysis
Discussion on the analysis of roles and resources using the Resource Usage Profile and Spreadsheet.
Resource Assignments Window
Revisit of the Resource Assignments Window with more emphasis on the individual sections within the window.
manual Resource Allocation
While most resource loading is taught using a linear allocation, Primavera has the ability to customize the spread of Roles & Resources on an activity via curves and manual allocation.
Bucket Planning
Individual hours on resource spreads exist at Hourly, daily or Monthly time frames.  Bucket planning allows users to individually control the effort on those time intervals.
Leveling Resources
When overallocation exists, Primavera has the capability of automatically moving tasks via set parameters such that the overallocation is mitigated.
Storing Period Performance
By default, as actual data is incurred in Primavera, it is spread linearly.  Stored Period Performance allows actual data to be entered at set intervals.
Duration Types
There are 3 key fields in Primavera that are impacted by what Duration Type is selected, Duration, Remaining Units/Time and Remaining Units.  Different Duration Types lock/unlock different parameters.
Percent Complete
There are several types of Percent Complete in Primavera.  Specifically, Duration Percent Complete, Physical Percent Complete and Units Percent Complete.  How they impact Earned Value will be discussed.
Earned Value
Catalyst will explain how Earned Value can help you to control variances for both Cost and Schedule.  Using Earned Value, Planned Value and Actual Cost, we can set up thresholds that give indicators of whether variances are acceptable.
Advanced Scheduling
The critical path is not the only float path created when working in Primavera.  Catalyst will teach how to determine both how many float paths there are and the sequence of the activities within each float path.
User Defined Fields / Global Change
Where coding does not work, Primavera gives the user the capability of creating custom user defined fields.  When administrators need to make mass changes to a schedule, they have the Global Change capability.
Managing Multiple Projects
In Primavera, multiple projects may be worked with at once.  We will look at the considerations of working in multiple projects as well as the impacts of rescheduling multiple projects at once.
